Primary Responsibilities are to:
- Work closely with Extension and research colleagues to develop and implement local education programs for target audiences;
- Facilitate communication among crop producers, technical specialists and communities; and,
- Provide leadership for best management practices as related to crop production.
Secondary Responsibilities are to:
- Provide subject matter support in crop science for the 4-H Youth Development county program; and,
- Provide educational programming and coordination to assist with community development efforts in the county.
The Extension Educator will develop research-based programs that meet clientele needs including "on-farm" applied research projects related to crop production issues. (S)he will be expected to report program impacts in the state reporting system, Impact Statements, reports to County Commissioners, and in other appropriate publications. Programs will be delivered through classes, workshops, volunteer training sessions, and other methods as appropriate. The educator will prepare articles for local and regional newspapers. (S)he will be expected to work closely with community leaders, cooperating agencies, advisory committees and other decision makers, and comply with the University of Idaho policy on non-discrimination as stated in the University of Idaho Faculty-Staff Handbook, Section 3060.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
The position requires a Master's degree in crop science, agriculture and natural resources, production agriculture, agriculture education, or a closely related field, which must be completed by date of hire. Applicants are expected to have outstanding communication skills, computer skills, and a strong desire to educate diverse audiences about crop science issues. The position requires travel and fieldwork. The successful candidate should be willing and able to conduct and attend evening and weekend programs and meetings and should be willing and able to travel. The individual selected must pass a criminal background check. Successful candidates must have a valid driver's license and have the ability to meet University of Idaho requirements for operating a University/rental vehicle.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in delivering Extension educational programs. A background and experience in crop production or agriculture and natural resources, are preferred. Knowledge of Hispanic culture and ability to communicate in Spanish, both orally and written, is desired. Bilingual candidates with previous experience working with underserved and minority audiences are preferred.
