Job description
Job description: A faculty member at SPC has the primary function of instruction. Secondary functions include assisting the college in developing and maintaining a quality program of instruction, providing service to the college and continuing professional development.

Responsibilities
  • Fosters academic excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Supports the community college philosophy through commitment to success of students with diverse goals, backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Instructs students in accordance with college policies, procedures and approved curricula.
  • Uses out-of-class duty hours effectively for class preparation, assisting students and participating in department/college activities.
  • Supports college extracurricular functions.
  • Maintains currency in teaching field(s) through professional development and scholarly activities.
  • Demonstrates a professional, cooperative and considerate attitude toward students, colleagues and staff.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Serves the college through any of the following:
  • Committee membership,
  • Curriculum development,
  • Development of innovative instruction,
  • Sponsorship of student organizations,
  • Representation of the college in professionally related community activities, and
  • Special projects.
Req. candidate profile : Educational Requirements

Master's degree in English or master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in any combination of the following subject areas: Business Writing, Communications, Creative Writing, Drama/Theater, English, English as a Second Language/TESOL, Film, Forensics, Grammar, Journalism, Language Arts, Linguistics, Literature, Rhetoric and Composition, Speech, Technical Writing. The 18 graduate hours must include at least 12 graduate semester hours in English, Linguistics, Literature, or Rhetoric and Composition.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirements

Teaching experience. Excellent oral/written communication skills. Excellent computer skills applicable to online instruction.
