The role of Vice President, US Tax will involve US tax planning and advice for the group including funds under management and corporate affiliates.
The responsibilities for this position include the following:
• US tax planning and support for the group including Funds under management and corporate affiliates;
• Playing an integral role in the Funds formation process, working closely with senior management and external advisors in developing new Funds;
• Liaising directly with Fund investors regarding US tax matters;
• Involvement in M&A transactions and internal corporate reorganizations;
• Communicate US tax issues and requirements to Finance and Operations personnel and monitor compliance on ongoing basis;
• Perform US tax research and develop strong relationships with external US tax advisors;
• Identify opportunities to optimize US tax position and communicate to senior management on a proactive and timely basis;
• Stay abreast of new US tax legislation and developments and communicate to management;
• Oversee US tax compliance and audit activities and ensure best practices are implemented.
In order to qualify, candidates should meet the following minimum requirements:
• Qualified CPA or tax lawyer with at least 10 years of US Federal corporate tax experience with either a large public accounting or law firm or a large US corporation;
• Experience in Canada-US cross-border taxation, M&A transactions, partnerships and corporate reorganizations;
• Experience in developing private equity fund structures and real estate transactions including familiarity with US REIT rules;
• Ability to communicate with complex issues and topics in a simple, clear and concise manner;
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and enjoys working in a very fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
• We would like to reiterate the ideal candidate should be a senior tax person with relevant experience (of at least 10 years).
