Job description: Description of Responsibilities:

As the department continues to expand its mission to establish new directions in curriculum and facilities for the 21st century, the Chair must be a leader with vision and an interest in developing and implementing curricula that includes multicultural issues and perspectives. Strengths in communicating, marketing and planning are essential. Other assignments may include teaching, student teaching supervision, and/or other administrative duties.

The department chair also:
  • Oversees curriculum and program development, with an understanding of NCATE standards, program standards of ITEA/CTTE, and the NYSED regulations for teacher education
  • Makes staffing and scheduling decisions
  • Manages the recruitment of undergraduate and graduate students
  • Advises graduate and undergraduate students
  • Manages department facilities and budget
  • Hires, supervises, and evaluates personnel
  • As the SOE expands its partnerships with external agencies in professional development schools and funded grant projects, the Chair insures departmental participation where appropriate.
Req. candidate profile : Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Technology Education, Career and Technical Education or another related field from an accredited university
  • Committed to preparing students for multicultural/global communities of the 21st century
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence and a record of scholarship
  • Experience in establishing relationships with government agencies (for grants), business, industry and school districts
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary and collaborative initiatives
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • A history of working collaboratively with faculty and students of diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated leadership in Technology Education
