Cooper Power Systems recently created an Energy Automation Solutions (EAS) business unit to meet the growing utility demand for automation technologies and expertise. The EAS business unit focuses on providing comprehensive automation technologies and expertise that help our customers to increase productivity, improve system reliability and reduce costs.
Position Responsibilities
- Determine communication-related requirements for customer energy automation solutions. This will be accomplished through customer site/field visits and effective communications with customer engineering personnel to ultimately determine customer wants/needs.
- Provide leadership and support for the communication domain of new product development projects. Uses the design control plan to conceive, propose and direct preparation of specifications and designs for new products, product lines and systems using state of the art concepts, materials and techniques.
- Develop communication protocol implementations for embedded microprocessors based on open and proprietary standards
- Coordination of new products with development teams, documenting and assisting with strategic automation direction. Integration of low power processor controlled electronics within high power/voltage electrical environments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- BSEE or related discipline. Advanced engineering courses or degrees desirable.
- 2+ years of professional experience in engineering, including experience and/or exposure to the integration of communications? equipment with electronics, electrical power equipment, it?s use and manufacture is preferred.
- Familiarity with integration of intelligent electronic devices with various types of communication equipment such as modems, radios, fiber optics, etc.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, experience in coordinating/completing complex electronic projects.
- Demonstrated ability and experience necessary to manage outside contractors for electronic assembly and test.
- Knowledge of implementing communication protocols in an embedded environment along with problem solving techniques to verify proper operation.
- Understanding of modern data communications practices using open and proprietary protocols.
- Ability to travel extensively (50%+) across North America to customer field sites to determine customer wants along with identification of other variables (equipment, geographic terrain, minerals, etc.), which could affect providing an optimal communications solution.
