The College of Engineering Office of Advancement invites applications and nominations for a full-time Director of Advancement or Senior Director of Advancement for Corporate Relations. One of the great engineering education and research institutions in the world, Engineering at Illinois enjoys strong and long standing partnerships with leading companies in every sector of the technology industry.
Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Associate Dean for Advancement, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
- Develop and assess opportunities to engage with corporate entities. Work collaboratively with departments and units in the College of Engineering at Illinois, building comprehensive approaches to maximize corporate investment in the College of Engineering.
- Serve as point person for corporate relations in the College of Engineering. Coordinate strategies for multi-interest corporate prospects, develop written proposals, and coordinate and host campus visits. Establish effective working relationships with corporate representatives and also within the campus Office of Corporate Relations, the Office of Institutional Advancement, and other university units. This is a collaborative position, and requires a person who is experienced and comfortable in working across administrative boundaries in an open and collegial environment.
- Establish effective working relationships with academic department heads, laboratory directors, faculty, and administrators throughout the College of Engineering, in order to thoroughly understand their programs and priorities and to assist them in managing their respective corporate partnership activities
- Work closely with engineering communications to oversee marketing and communication of key messages and information directed at corporations.
- Maintain a travel schedule of approximately 20 percent time, meeting with corporate executives around the world, learning about their companies' objectives, and identifying new opportunities for significant alliances with the College of Engineering.
- Create opportunities for regular and substantive contact between high-level corporate and foundation executives and high-level college, campus and university executives.
- Coordinate the implementation of corporate alliances, provide stewardship, monitor outcomes, and prepare regular progress reports.

Required Qualifications:
- Candidates must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree. Advanced degree preferred.
- A commitment to the mission and values of the College of Engineering.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a highly self-directed, pro-active and creative manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three years' experience in corporate relations at a major research university or in university relations at a major corporation.
- Strong working knowledge of the corporate technology sector, including corporate structure, culture, decision-making processes, hiring practices, and research programs.
- Understanding of engineering and/or scientific education and research programs.
- Demonstrated success in working within a decentralized organization, forging effective collaborations across administrative boundaries.
