Job description: This is a professional position of a managerial nature in planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising the accounting, auditing and budgetary functions of the College including full charge responsibility over General Ledger activities.

Responibilities:

Directs, coordinates, monitors and evaluates the work activities of staff to ensure that key deadlines are met; train and advise department chairs/managers in budget preparation; develop and implement policy manuals, procedures and financial management forms; prepares/develops complex annual operating budget for multiple departments, including fiscal planning, control and analysis; supervise month end and year end closing activities including the review and approval of GL journal entries prepared by finance office staff; perform, supervise and/or review monthly account reconciliations for all major balance sheet accounts; produce monthly budget to actual variance reports revenue and expense activity; review and reconcile bi-weekly payroll activity; provide direction and oversight to grant activities; manages audit and purchasing activities; participate in implementing goals and objectives; Develops and directs changes in financial accounting/reporting systems, methods, procedures and reports; represent the finance office on College or System wide committees.
Req. candidate profile : Knowledge Skills And Abilities:

A thorough understanding of theory and practices in accounting; significant experience in managing a general ledger including the performance of monthly reconciliation processes and the review and approval of GL journal entries prepared by other staff members; knowledge of and experience working with and managing a complex financial accounting software system; ability to research discrepancies, analyze data, summarize finding and recommend solutions; prior experience reviewing and supervising the work of professional level accountants; prior experience reviewing and preparing materials for audit activities; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Prior accounting experience in a higher education or government environment preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or closely related field and four (4) years of progressively responsible work experience in Accounting and Auditing, including two (2) years of supervisory experience. Equivalent related work experience may be substituted for education on a year-to-year basis.
