Teach General Biology 101 lecture and laboratory (a one-semester introductory course for non-majors) and BI 101E (Biology 101 for pre-elementary teachers).
Provide leadership in the Department's effort to revise and strengthen the General Biology 101 curriculum.
Develop and implement teaching techniques that include interactive learning, and utilize audiovisual and computer technology in ways that enhance learning.
Participate fully as a member of the Biological Sciences Department in such activities as department meetings, curriculum development and revision, committee membership, and textbook selection.
Advise students on curriculum, academic programs, employment and career goals, and other matters, as appropriate.
Support the College through committee work and other work normally expected of faculty members.
Engage in professional development activities that maintain expertise in the field of Biological Sciences, Biology Education, and instructional strategies.
Demonstrate a commitment to Learning College Principles.
Integrate professional expertise within the greater community.
Adhere to the standards and requirements expressed in the faculty contract.
Req. candidate profile :
REQUIREMENTS:
Broad-based education in the Biological Sciences with a Master's Degree in Biological Sciences, or a related discipline that includes 18 semester hours of graduate coursework in Biological Sciences.
Bachelor's Degree in a natural science.
K-12 teaching certification and experience.
Experience teaching a Biology Education course at the college level preferred.
Minimum of two years full-time-equivalent teaching experience in biological sciences at the college or university level. Teaching experience in General Biology at the community college level preferred.
Experience working with non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds and with varying academic skills preferred.
Experience using a variety of teaching technologies and methodologies.
