Job description
Job description: To coordinate special events and projects for peta2 and generate support from youth-relevant celebrities for peta2 events and campaigns
Job duties: Coordinate special events, including enlisting the support of youth-relevant celebrities, supervising the execution of events, and working with the Communications and Media Campaigns departments to ensure media coverage
Coordinate special projects involving celebrities, including photo shoots, special events, and the production and editing of radio and TV commercials for peta2
Write letters to youth-relevant celebrities to encourage them to get involved in various peta2 campaigns
Write letters to youth-relevant celebrities who support industries or engage in acts that harm animals (e.g., wearing fur, buying an animal from a pet store, attending an animal-based circus, eating foie gras) with information about how their actions impact animals
Write scripts, ad copy, and text of celebrity letters when celebrities sign on to campaigns
Coordinate and write text for Web features for peta2.com, as assigned by the supervisor
Write and develop content for frequent peta2 blog entries
Work with the Youth Outreach & Campaigns, Media Campaigns, and Communications departments to pitch new ideas
Develop relationships with entertainment industry professionals, including agencies, publicity firms, management companies, photographers, stylists, etc.
Keep thorough records in the celebrity database of all correspondence between peta2 and celebrities
Read all entertainment monthlies and magazines (print and online versions) to determine youth-relevant celebrities' stances on animal issues
Send thank-you, birthday, and congratulatory notes via e-mail or fax to let appropriate celebrities know that we support them in their endeavors
Travel when necessary to represent peta2 at concerts, festivals, industry events such as conferences, and other events
Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor
Req. candidate profile : Thorough knowledge of the entertainment industry, the media, and youth culture
Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and campaigns
Exceptional writing abilities, including composing and editing letters
Exceptional verbal communication skills
Excellent research skills
Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional manner
Diplomacy, friendliness, and patience
Ability to take initiative and follow through
Ability to make sound judgments and work independently
Ability to be honest, reliable, and discreet
