MainStreet.com, a new site from TheStreet.com, is one of the most exciting Web properties around today. MainStreet covers news and personal finance for a growing audience of young, educated readers who want the day’s news and latest personal finance advice.
We are looking for a General Manager/Managing Editor to oversee the strategic direction of MainStreet, manage and recruit an expanding editorial staff (including freelance writers), manage the P&L, and work with the Company’s executives in strategy direction and execution. This position reports to the Editor-in-Chief and Editor of TheStreet.com.
Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain excellence in news and personal finance coverage.
Develop ideas for stories and the promotion of video and interactive content.
Line edit 300- to 1,000-word articles.
Work with photo editor and multimedia team to develop slide shows and interactive components.
Supervise a strong team of staff writers, freelance writers, and stringers.
Edit and produce special projects as needed.
Req. candidate profile :
Requirements:
Great news judgment.
7+ years of journalism experience, ideally a combination of writing and editing.
Ability to flourish in a fast-paced environment.
Good copy-editing skills.
Sense of humor.
Strong familiarity with personal finance topics or business.
Experience in managing and motivating editorial staff.
Ability to develop editorial strategy, and communicate that to executives, colleagues and staff. Experience with online publishing is preferred.
